Malaysia is actually composed of two parts: East Malaysia (Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur and other popular cities) and West Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak). Mostly people who visit Malaysia travel to East Malaysia.
Then even in East Malaysia there is East Coast and West Coast. West Coast is Langkawi, Penang etc. Kuala Lumpur and Cameron Highlands can be called Central East Malaysia. East Coast has Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu.
The weather in Malaysia is hot and humid year round, interspersed with tropical rain showers. The wet season on the east coast is between November & February, which is when the west coast experiences sunny, dry weather.

Currency/ForexCurrency used in Malaysia is Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and it's not very popular so make sure you try arranging it in a bit advance. Due to the demonetization circus going on I had a tough time trying to arrange it, finally had to take the Multicurrency Platinum ForexPlus Chip Card from HDFC, it is a non-personalized Forex Card that you can get over the counter.
Total cost (excluding Shopping)INR 1 lakh 54 thousand approx. The conversion rate for forex card was 1 MYR = 16 INR.
Time Difference (from India)Malaysia is 2 hrs 30 minutes ahead of India.
LanguageAlmost everyone understands English, no major issues.
Travelling Companions2 Adults, both Vegetarians.
Popular DessertsAvoid buying any of the local desserts like Coconut cake, Malaysian Cake, Dodol etc, none are worth. But do try Cendol at Sangkaya, extremely good.
Ice-CreamsABC is very popular there, which is mostly crushed/shaved ice; same as Ais/Ice Kacang in Singapore and Chuski in India.
Stuff to bring backLeather items maybe, but I wasn't particularly impressed by anything.

Bird's Eye View of the PlanFlights
Got tickets booked on 1st September, 2016 for both-ways.
Flight from Bangalore to Langkawi
- Will be taking the Tiger Airways flight from Bangalore Airport to Langkawi Airport via layover at Singapore.
- As much as I hate Tiger Airways, the reason for taking Tiger Airways flight were manifold. There were no direct flights (non-stop) to Langkawi, all of them are hopping. And of all the airports, I prefer Singapore Airport for a layover, simply because it is an awesome experience to be there. You have Indian Restaurants there and great fun shopping.
- A more practical reason for taking Tiger Airways was you do not have to buy Singapore Visa for your landing at the airport, you do not have to clear immigration or move your luggage from one airlines to another, Tiger Airways does all of that on your behalf; you can just land at the airport and get down to real business, shopping. This facility is called Tiger Connect. Simply collect a boarding pass for your onward flight at Transfer Lounge E within the transit area.
- Tigerconnect comes with an airport transfer feature that makes your transit in Singapore Changi Airport a hassle-free experience. The feature offers greater ease for your onward journey without the need to clear arrival immigration and retrieve luggage. A travel visa for Singapore is not needed.
- For flight connections under 8 hours, airport transfer has been incorporated in the flight purchase for hassle-free transfer.
- For flight connections more than 8 hours, passengers can purchase the airport transfer feature online for SGD 22 or at Singapore Changi Airport Transfer E for SGD 40. With the airport transfer feature, Tigerconnect passengers can, upon arrival at Singapore Changi Airport, simply collect boarding passes for their onward flights at the transfer counters located at the transit area, Transfer E.
- Luggage checked-in will then be sent to the onward flight while they enjoy a wonderful shopping and dining experience at Singapore Changi Airport transit area. Tigerconnect passengers can also opt to explore Singapore via the free city shuttle.
- Tigerconnect service for passenger transit in Singapore Changi Airport is only available for Tigerair Singapore flights and its partner airline, Scoot.

Flight from Langkawi to PenangThere are primarily two option to travel from Langkawi and Penang, either by ferry or flight. The reason for choosing flight over the ferry were:
- If the sea is choppy lot of people get sea-sick and you have to sit in that vomit-stink for the entire journey.
- It is scheduled to take 2 hours 45 minutes may take a lot longer depending on the conditions at sea (Straits of Malacca).
- Flight was cheaper than ferry which was 70 MYR per person, one-way.
- All you will see is an endless stretch of water (Straits of Malacca). There's nothing worth photo-snapping on the boat. Moreover, you will be inside the ferry throughout the trip as there is no access to the top or outside of the ferry, which means you can only view outside via windows which are normally covered with water from the water spray or dust and dirt.

Landed at Langkawi at 2:15 PM.
Took a taxi to go to Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel.
Completed UnderWater World Langkawi, Cenang Beach and Cenang Mall.
Langkawi AirportLangkawi International Airport IATA airport code is LGK and ICAO code is WMKL
Located within Padang Matsirat, approximately 15 minutes away from Langkawi Island’s popular Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah stretch, the airport bears the requisite airport facilities and maintains its no-frills features.
After the flight lands, you will need to walk along the tarmac for a short distance to reach the arrival hall. There is no covered jet walk or aero-bridge here. So if it rains, you are likely to get wet unless a crew hands over an umbrella to you. And on a hot sunny day, you are likely to sweat by the time you reach the air-conditioned arrival hall.
The arrival lounge is simple. It's a large halls with a baggage claim area and series of stalls offering car rentals and taxi services. However the exit corridor leads to another larger hall area after a sliding gate which is common with departure. Here you will get all the duty free shops and cafes. In fact this common area is accessible to anyone (not necessarily just passengers).
Don't expect too many jazzy glittering stores and eating places, although there are a few cafes and nice stores here like the Starbucks, Marrybrown, Polo, Kenny Rogers etc. You really don't need to purchase anything at the airport unless you urgently require something. The entire island is duty free and there are ample duty free shopping centers in the island.
If you are a foreigner and your port of entry is at Langkawi, then you will need to fill up the disembarkation form and hand it over to the Immigration Officer along with your passport on arrival.
Taxis in Langkawi
Taxis are the most convenient and popular mode of public transport in Langkawi. However they also turn out to be quite expensive if you plan to use the taxi service frequently. A short 15 minutes drive can easily cost you RM18. The taxis in Langkawi do not run on meters. There are fixed fares between places.
While I have seen no such printed charts (except at the airport taxi counter) that tell you clearly the rates between two points, the taxi drivers all seem to know them by heart and will tell you the fare immediately once you tell them where you want to go.
There are plenty of taxis available all across the island and all of them are air-conditioned.
Taxi fares vary depending on the capacity of the vehicle. The most popular and the frequently available taxis are the ones with capacity of up to 4 passengers. There are also larger taxis (although much fewer) that have capacity of up to 6, and some up to 8 and even up to 10. The fare of 6-passenger taxi is 50% more than the standard 4-passenger taxis while 8-passenger taxi fare will be 100% more. So to take an example, if fare of a 4-passenger taxi is RM18 between two places, it would be RM27 for a 6-passenger taxi and RM36 for an 8-passenger taxi.
Note: From 11pm at night until 7am in the morning, you will need to pay an additional surcharge of 50% over and above the normal taxi fare. So for example a normal fare of RM18 will become RM27 during this period.
Langkawi Airport to Cenang Plaza Beach HotelAirport Taxi Counters are located at the baggage claim area and terminal exit.
On the left hand side of the Arrival Hall corridor that leads to the exit, there are a couple of counters that offer you pre paid coupons. The rates are fixed for various destinations in the island: you’ll likely pay around RM24 to get to the Kuah jetty or Pantai Cenang, while a trip to Pantai Kok or Teluk Datai will cost you RM28. Further destinations, like Tanjung Rhu, will most likely cost you approximately RM35. The person at the counter will ask you for your hotel, locate the place and tell you the rate. You pay the fare in advance and they give you a coupon.
At the end of the exit corridor and outside the sliding gate there is a small desk (Taxi Service Center). Hand over the coupon to the lady at the desk and she will call one of the drivers waiting nearby to take you to your taxi. While most drivers in the island are men, there are also lady drivers and all of them will help you load your luggage in the boot. The drivers don't expect tips. The standard taxis can take up to four passengers (one in front and three in the rear). You are required to put on the seat belt both in front seats as well as at the rear.

- The meal was good but the portion was small and its expensive, the service was slow, our beverage came after all of us done eating our meal.
- No frills restaurant, ambience is missing completely.
- A bit pricey.
- Place is opposite to Zone & Under water world , but slightly hidden. To us the presentation of food and quality of food was good. The place is neat & clean. We only tried Indian food which was good
- The portions were huge so everyone left very full and satisfied :) The staff were also very friendly and helped with recommendations! Would definitely recommend the Taj Mahal.

- Located right behind the Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel
- The beach is very clean and offers good swimming when it's safe - there are a lot of activities - banana boat rides, jet ski, para gliding - along with a variety of boat trips which include island hopping - the beach is very busy at one end and gets quieter the further you walk / the sand is white and generally clean
- At night little portable bars open with carpets and bean bags - assorted tables and chairs - low lights music and shisha - on some nights there were fire dancers going up and fun the beach / hugely entertaining
- Spectacular views and a nice soft sand.
- lovely public beach with all the activities and water sports. Great place to chill and soak yourself in sun, sand and water
- Located right in front of the hotel
- Duty free shopping especially chocolates and liquors - this is the place to go and its right on the main road on Cenang !!
- Very tiny mall: 2 floors with maybe 12 shops. Nothing much in the mall. There's Maybank, duty free shop selling alcohol & chocolates, McDonald's dessert café, Starbucks, KFC, Old Town White Coffee, and some small stores selling over priced items. There is a Guardian shop, in case you need basic essentials like toothpaste etc.
- Everything you buy in Langkawi is tax-free so you do not need to pay the 6% GST. Thats what I like it .
- The one good thing is you can book other tour in the shopping mall than booking in hotel. You will find the information counter to book your tour easily.

- Unique to Underwater World Langkawi is the gigantic 15-meter long walk-through tunnel consisting of 500,000 litre seawater which houses many big fishes and sea creatures.
- Other attractions include the Freshwater Fish Section, the Seashell Display, the Koi Pond, the Reptilian Section and the Coral Reef Section.
- The Sub-Antarctic Ecosystem Display includes a spectacular “penguinarium” with an underwater tunnel for visitors to view swimming penguins.
- Adults: RM43, cannot be bought online.
- Opening Hours: 10:00 am - 06:00 pm
- Not having good range of attractive species; only penguins are the eye catcher. Good to visit if you are traveling with kids.
- I recommend 1-2 hours or more if you're an enthusiast in aquatic, marine life or other exotic animals that Underwater World Langkawi own or if you're students in this field. There's a Marrybrown restaurant inside and outside this building with souvenirs shop before the exit that leads to a mall for another shopping time.
- There's many kinds of fishes, sea seals, turtles, penguins, sharks, etc. the most impressive species might be the king penguin, the big squid and the huge spider crab.
- The exit of the aquarium connects to two duty free shops (in the same complex but outside UnderWater World) and some small souvenir stores, so one can spends his time to look around and buy something.
- The air conditioning was very welcome and the toilets were pretty good for Malaysian standards.
Complete Kilim Karst Geoforest Park with Dev's Adventure Tours today. Dev's Adventure operators scheduled our pick-up from the hotel at 9.55 AM.
Kilim Karst Geoforest Park
- Amazing sights of the sea and its mountains. The mangrove tour is highly recommended! See eagles flying, great views, monkeys! This unesco sight is worth a visit!
- The ride to this place is great. We opted for the 6 hours mangrove tour. The first spot is this thing. The big rock stands in the middle of the sea majestically. No amount of photos will do justice to the beauty of this place. The entire park is split into numerous small islands. Each of them has a speciality in addition to its natural beauty. In open sea, you enjoy the speed boat. Else a slow ride through the tiny openings in to the mangrove. In between go to the bat cave, crocodile cave (no crocodiles here), monkey feeding, eagle feeding, fish feeding and lunch in a floating restaurant with sea food of your choice.
- Highly recommended to take a mangrove boat tour of this park with Dev's Adventure Tours. For 160 RM per person, you will enjoy a fantastic day with wildlife watching in the mangrove, a short walk in a cave, a swim on an isolated island with private sand bar beach, and a good lunch. We really enjoyed our day. Don't miss this tour while in Langkawi.
- Please dress in shorts, flipflops and light T-shirt as it will be a tour completely on water and climate will be humid. Wear a swim-suit underneath if you do plan to swim.
- Before getting onto the boat we were asked to use the restrooms at the start of the tour. There are limited facilities and the bathroom is pretty filthy. Costs 0.40 RM per head for usage of restroom. You can buy tissues before you go in for a small fee.
- Kilim Karst Geoforest Park Langkawi rests on limestone formations more than 500 million years old. Scattered over 100 square kilometres, this natural wonder is known for mangrove swamps, clean beaches, and amazing hills that look over to the Andaman Sea.
- Carry enough sun lotion and drinking water. While most boats have plastic shades, there is also some open space for seating. Try to avoid the open sun exposure. Even while the boat moves and the breeze is felt nice, on a sunny day you are prone to sunburn.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes, cotton T-shirts, a hat and shorts.
- Carry swimwear and towel if your tour offers time at Tanjung Rhu beach.
- The bat cave was a stand out attraction. The absolute highlight of the trip. The fish farm was a good stop for coffee and seeing all the different types of sea creatures they have in the pens. All and all a perfect couple of hours.
- I also suggest going at low tide so you can see things not visible at high tide (ie. Crocodile cave). Wearing slip-resistant shoes are really important as you will be getting in and out of the boat a fair bit.
- And check the weather beforehand as if it rains, you will undoubtedly get soaked :)
- Email: info@langkawi-nature.com
- Dev's Adventure operators scheduled our pick-up from the hotel at 9.55 AM and the driver was on time.

- We had a fantastic day on this tour - it was a lovely little group of 10 and our guide was a very knowledgeable. Our first, stop was the bat cave where there were thousands of little bats sleeping on the ceiling of the cave. Next we spent some time traveling the river through the mangroves. We were then taken to a lovely little beach among the islands where we had a cooling swim and chatted to our fellow travellers. The Eagles were next - many big, beautiful birds soaring and diving. Were then had lunch at the floating restaurant and also experienced the fish feeding at the fish farm. Altogether it was a wonderful day made so memorable by our very knowledgeable guide, and our fellow travellers. I very highly recommend Dev's Mangrove Boat tour .
- Booking - Made an inquiry regrading the mangrove tour via email and received a reply with all the details within half an hour. They were prompt in reverting to the emails and clarifying/answering all my queries which was really impressive.

- Before you go up ask people coming off if the sky bridge is open as they will take your money and you only have a round trip on the cable car for you trouble.
- There is a glass-bottom gondola as well which are more expensive, we did the normal one
- We bought the Combo A (SkyCab + SkyDome + SkyRex + 6D Cinema) which cost us 63 RM per person
- Tickets can be bought online.
- Do note that you have to buy a separate ticket for SkyBridge, world’s longest curve suspension bridge. Price for SkyBridge is RM5.00 for adult and RM3.00 for children. Currently, ticket can be purchased at SkyBridge Ticketing Counter at Top Station
- We stopped at the Middle Station for roughly 20 minutes for some photo shoots before moving on to the Top Station. You always have the option to proceed straight to the Top Station without stopping in the middle.
- At the Top Station, there are two observation decks for photo shoots and additional stuff like SkyBistro, SkyBoutique, SkyPos, SkyBridge and the SkyTrail
- Skybridge, This bridge is not enormous, but nonetheless still quite spetacular, and is all modern steel construction suspended by overhead cables. It felt very safe at all times. Very nice views and it really is quite high, i saw a few people change their minds about going across, but most of the children did not seem concerned.
- SkyCab: SkyCab is the cable-car. Goes to three station: Base, Middle and Top. Normal Gandola costs RM 45 per person and it takes 15 minutes to reach the top station. You just step into a box and it will glide down towards SkyBridge, pretty effortless. As for SkyTrail, it costs RM5.00 per pax and it's a 230 meters hike from Top Station to SkyBridge. There are stairs all the way, so it should not be that difficult, but you might need to come into contact with the wildlife (long tailed macaques). Bring mosquito repellent.
- Once you arrive at the Top Station you can go to the counter on the left and buy the ticket; 5 ringget for 200-meters stairs on 15 R for gliding car.

- 3D Art Museum: Buy a separate ticket at location. Costs 38 MYR per head, but a must-do. Located within the vicinity of Oriental Village, with 21,000 square feet of build up, it features more than one hundred 3D interactive paintings. There are nine different theme zones that you will truly enjoy. The different zones include Aquarium Zone, Safari Zone, Fantasy Zone, Optic Illusion Zone, Malaysia Zone, Classic Zone, Main Hall Zone, Interactive Zone 1 and Interactive Zone 2. A must-do, never saw anything like this. Amazing photo opportunities. They will ask you to take off your shoes before entering and there is no carpeting inside so if you are not used to walking bare-foot, it will hurt. Air-conditioning is a welcome respite though. The bathrooms in here were the cleanest I saw in Malaysia.

- Typical of Langkawi, it was very humid yet they did not allow visitors to take drinks onto the cable cars. Drinks had to be left at the entrance. This was however, not enforced. We had a bottle of water in my wife's handbag and she walked through without any problem. So, be subtle if you want to bring bottles of water, which I recommend, otherwise be prepared to buy drinks at the top station.
- They are about 12km away from the airport (approximately 17 minutes if travel by car). From Kuah town, it would be about 29km (approximately 34 minutes if travel by car) and from Cenang beach, it would be about 18km (approximately 24 minutes if travel by car).

Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel to Langkawi AirportWe took a cab from Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel and went to Langkawi Airport, cost 20 MYR.
Langkawi Airport
- A very basic airport with minimal facilities.
- No drinking water available in the domestic part at least, there is a convenience store you can buy from there, but no drinking fountain.
- Kiosks are available for web-checking, a manual checkin will be charged extra.
- If you can't understand how to check-in, fiddle with the kiosk for sometime, and help will come.
- The domestic departure toilets are still better, the International Arrival Terminal's were horrible (right before the Immigration Counter).
- Free Wifi is available, but I think for 20 minutes only every hour.
Take the 9.55 AM flight out of Langkawi and land at Penang Airport at 10.30 AM.
Penang AirportMalaysia’s third busiest airport has the official IATA code of PEN – standing in for Penang International Airport.
Penang Airport to Bayview Hotel Georgetown PenangPenang International Airport taxis have their own taxi counter in the arrivals hall, where passengers should ask for assistance. An airport employee will ascertain where a visitor is heading, before issuing a voucher to the visitor with the correct fare. Once this voucher has been paid for, the passenger takes the paid voucher to the taxi stand.
The taxi fare depends on where one stays on Penang Island and there are 7 different zones on the island. Zone 1 costs around 14 Ringgit, while Zone 2 will cost around RM22 and Zone 5 to the capital city George Town will cost around RM38. - Breakfast was included in our deal, and the spread was enormous and service staff were prompt in clearing our plates. There were sufficient vegetarian items as well. Breakfast timings was 6.30 AM onwards till 10 AM.
- Iron and ironing board were provided.
- Bed was firm but it was comfortable, I could sleep peacefully. The only issue was the loud music that kept on going till the late hours in midnight. I am assuming it was coming from ground below, so probably any floor less than 6 will definitely not work for light sleepers.
- HOHO Bus Stop 12-Blue Mansion is very close, but be aware it is not in the same lane as The Blue Mansion, so ask someone. On the way to HOHO bus stop frm BayView, you will find Shell Petrol Pump, behind the stop is a cemetery and facing the stop on the opposite is a car-showroom, I think it was Mercedes Benz, not very sure.

You can easily find taxis congregating at major shopping malls, the airport and bus terminals. Apart from these places, it may be quite difficult to hail a taxi in Penang. They are not as plentiful as in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
You can find taxi stands in front of all major hotels and shopping malls. So one way to get taxis is to go to the nearest major hotels. In George Town, that would be Bayview Georgetown Hotel, Cititel, Sunway Hotel, Georgetown City Hotel and g Hotel (in front of Gurney Plaza). There is also an abundance of taxis at the taxi stations next to the Weld Quay Ferry & Bus Terminal and Komtar Bus Terminal as well as Queensbay Mall, Bukit Jambul Complex and Sunshine Square. There are fewer taxis (but still possible) at the E & O Hotel, Gurney Hotel and Evergreen Laurel Hotel. For other locations, it's best to give the taxi a call.
Nobody goes by the meter, so its left to you to haggle. Most city taxis do not use the meter. You may either insist on the meter being turned on or agree on the price before you move off. Taxis normally charge between RM3.00 - RM6.00 for short distances within the city.
Types of Taxi in Georgetown
There are two types of taxi on the streets in Penang. The regular (or "budget") taxi has a red body with some white to the livery, while the premium (or "executive") taxi is blue in colour.
The red-colour "budget" taxis are the ones you will find waiting for customers at taxi stands of shopping malls.
Always remember to check that they switch on their meter before the journey starts. Still, if you can't find any willing to use the meter, and you are determined to take a taxi, then your only other option is to negotiate the fare before climbing on board. Most taxis have fixed fare from point to point within George Town, and people who are familiar with taking taxis in the city will know the charges. Hence even if you ask a few taxis, you are likely to be given the same price which they have agreed among themselves. Most taxi drivers agree to honor this rate, though it is possible that you may find unscrupulous drivers who will fleece foreigners. By shopping around, you will get familiar with street rates quoted by different drivers.

- It may not be possible to do both City Route and Bus Route in one day. If you want to do justice to both the routes buy a 48 hr ticket.
- There is a very basic pamphlet provided which they call guide book. It mentions only the stops with sites in the vicinity of the stops, but no details, so do your homework regarding what exactly you want to visit.
- A Standard 24HRS Ticket costs 40 RM, and you can buy online. If you buy the ticket on the bus, it will cost 45 MYR.
- We took the bus from Blue Mansion (Stop 12) City Route which was very walkable from BayView Hotel, only that you should know in which direction to walk; it is not in the same lane as Blue Mansion instead it is in the parallel lane. From there we went to Penang Hill (Stop 3) City Route then to Kek Lok Si (Stop 4) City Route and then we did Dharmikarama Burmese Temple and Thai Temple Wat Chayamangkalaram(Stop 13) City Route and then went back to Blue Mansion (Stop 12). These buses follow a circular route, so keep that in mind while planning your route. We did a round-about way because we definitely wanted to cover Penang Hill & Kek Lok Si via HOHO, and then if time permits we were planning to cover the two temples.
- The bus is very comfortable and glides on slowly through the streets.
- Do go early - start @ 9 AM as the afternoon gets very busy with traffic congestion and delays.
- The buses are double deckers, airconditioned and with a small open area upstairs. Staying on top & at the front row for the best view of Penang.
- Keep an eye out for the bus if you are waiting on any of the bus stops, there are a lot of stops where the bus stops only on demand. The best way out dealing with HOHO from my personal experience anywhere is to keep their pamphlet in hand and wave it as soon as you see a bus approaching to catch the driver's attention. Has worked for me everywhere.
- Be careful while sitting on the Top open area of the Bus as low hanging branches of trees alongside Road can hit you.
- There are stops where if you get down, there is no way to figure out where to go to reach your place of interest ex. Blue Mansion (Stop 12) City Route, the bus does not leave you outside Blue Mansion so once you get down you are clueless as to where to go.
- Website: penanghill.gov.my/
- How to get there:
- Rapid Bus - 204 (from Jetty to Bukit Bendera)
- Rapid Bus - 204 (from Komtar to Bukit Bendera)
- HOHO: City Route: Stop 3.
- Adult: Return on Cable Car RM 30
- The Penang Hill funicular train's schedule is as follows: Daily: 6.30a.m - 11.00p.m (Last train from top station)
- The Ticketing counter will be closed at: Daily: 10.30p.m
- It takes roughly 40 mins from town to reach here by hop on hop off bus.
- Take the cable car to the top. Comes every 5 minutes or so.
- Grossly over-rated attraction; there is nothing at the top and the funicular is worse they push you like cattle in the train. The Victoria Peak train at HongKong was far better organized.
- The views from the top are great, but the SkyBridge at Langkawi views were better.
- Avoid going on weekends or schol holidays, it gets really crazy and crowded. We were there early in the morning and it was still crowded.
- There is The Habitat at the top which you might want to do, though it is still under construction. There is Nature Trail, Canopy Walk (Under construction), Tree Top Walk, Red Garden, Butterfly Bank, Yellow Garden, Purple Garden, Ginger Grove, Fragrant Garden. Costs 50 RM per adult.
- At the top there're 3 viewing decks to enjoy the view from
- Other than the view not much at the top, there's a cheesy love lane (just a row of metallic heart installations to lock your love), a hindu temple and a mosque and an owl museum.
- HOHO: City Route: Stop 4.
- Also known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, Kek Lok Si is said to be the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, and arguably one of the most famous in Penang.
- Opening hours: 7 am–9 pm daily. The lift closed at 5:30 even the opening hours stated at 6:30.
- There is a lot to see, with prayer halls, pagodas, bell towers and a tortoise pond topping the list.
- Its main draw is the striking seven-storey Pagoda of Rama VI (Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas)
- One can climb to the top of the pagoda via a steep flight of stairs and be rewarded with a great view of Penang. The 30.2m bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, is yet another popular highlight.
- Opening hours are from 7am–9pm daily. Admission is free, except for entry into the pagoda and the Incline Lift.
- We took the incline left to go to bronze statue of Kuan Yin, costs 6 RM per person both ways.
- The entrance to the pagoda is 2 MYR
- The temple complex is beautiful and a must-do if you are in Penang.
- To reach the entrance, you have to walk through a maze of cheap souvenir stalls in a dilapiated bazaar sort of place, past a tightly packed turtle pond and murky fish ponds, until you reach Ban Po Thar, a seven-tier, 30m-high tower. The design is said to be Burmese at the top, Chinese at the bottom and Thai in between. A cable car whisks you to the highest level, which is presided over by an awesome bronze statue of Kuan Yin, goddess of mercy.
- Keep at least 2 hrs for this place.
- Keep your eyes open and it is not very difficult to reach here from where the HOHO bus drops you.
- HOHO Bus City Route: Stop 13.
- Bus Penang Route: No: U101 / U102 / U103 / U104 / U105 Open Time -10.00am - 6.00pm
- Dharmikarama Burmese Temple is the only Burmese Buddhist temple outside Myanmar. Located in Georgetown Penang, it stands opposite Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple, with a pair of large stone elephants flanking the front gates. Inside the pagoda grounds is a Boddhi tree, a wishing pond and apartments for monks. Since both the temples are opposite each other, you might want to club them together, since both are beautiful and very worth seeing.
- The woodwork in the main prayer hall is stunning and the whole atmosphere is excellent.
- HOHO City Route: Stop 13.
- Stands right opposite to Dharmikarama Burmese Temple, with its eye catching entrance with snake designs.. Since both the temples are opposite each other, you might want to club them together, since both are beautiful and very worth seeing.
- Houses the 4th longest 108 ft Sleeping/Reclining Buddha statue.
- Entrance is free. All the places where you can't wear shoes are clearly marked in English.
From Komtar Bus Terminal in GeorgeTown take a bus to Tanah Rata (Cameron Highlands).
From Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang to Komtar Bus TerminalWe took a taxi from the taxi-stand right outside the hotel, and came to Komtar Bus Terminal; costs us 12 MYR, it's pretty close, hardly a 5 minutes drive without traffic.
Bus Ride from Komtar Bus Terminal in George Town to Tanah Rata in Cameron Highlands- We bought our tickets online beforehand via easybook.com and it costs us 32 MYR per person. The ticket mentions that each passenger is allowed to carry luggage not exceeding 20kg, but our luggage was never weighed and it was visibly over 20kg.
- From Komtar Bus Terminal in George Town, Penang, we took the New Asian Travel's Amudi Express which picks you from Komtar Bus Terminal and drops you at Tanah Rata bus terminal. It goes via S.Nibong Terminal, Ipoh and then to Tanah Rata. They might ask you to shift to another bus at S.Nibong Terminal.
- The bus is expected to take almost 4.5 hours on an average and it naturally depends on the bus and the number of intermediate stoppage points.
- Inspite of the scheduled time of 8 AM, it started very late from Komtar Bus terminal itself and then waited sufficiently long again at S.Nibong Terminal. Stop at Ipoh was short, just to drop-off and pick-up some people and serves as a bathroom break for the rest. Finally we reached Tanah Rata Bus terminal at around 3 PM.
- Seating in the bus is a three columnar; Seat 1 is alone, and Seat 2 and Seat 3 are side-by-side attached. There is foot-rest.
- Excellent ride, awesome views all the way. The buses are air-conditioned, though not lavish but serves the purpose. Journey was smooth.
- There is a Prangin Mall next to Komtar Bus Terminal, if you reach early and want to kill sometime or catch a bite.
- It appears that the Free CAT (Central Area Transit Shuttle Bus) bus also has a stop here (Stop 9 - Komtar Pusat); the bus stops at Komtar Bus Terminal, and then exits Komtar, turning right at Magazine Road.
You can take a walk from Tanah Rata Bus Terminal to Century Pines Resort; around 290m or just 4 minutes walk.
Century Pines Resort- The worst hotel of the entire trip. The only reason to stay here should be proximity to Tanah Rata Bus Terminal and Indian Restaurants within walking distance, otherwise horrible property.
- We booked Superior Room, 1 Queen Bed, Mountain View, Balcony; Room No C101. And there was no balcony and no mountain view. There was a window on one entire side of the room facing the main gate, from where parking lot and other rooms of the hotel were visible. There was a protrusion outside along the window for about 6 inches which they claimed to be the afore-said balcony when questioned, but the truth of the matter is that if you stand there you cannot even close the sliding door behind you and if you keep the doors open insects tend to fly in.
- Only one set of towels, bath towels, were provided. No face towel or hand towel.
- While checkin they take a deposit of 150 MYR, which will be refunded when you check-out and they do provide a receipt of the same.
- No complimentary water bottles are provided, but there is a Coway water filter and dispenser kept at one place on every floor where you can refill your bottle.
- Two ugly set of re-usable plastic slip-ons were provided in room as slippers (pictures attached)
- I checked at the reception, there is no Superior Room with twin beds (two single beds).
- Wifi is horribly slow, and that too you can connect only one device. And even then it's not like you can disconnect one and connect another, it is like once you logged in from one device that is the only device you can connect the entire day.
- No fan, no air-conditioning and very dimly lit room.
- Room looks very old and stained and the entire property is screaming for maintainence.
- The walls are all dirty, the bed linen stained. The in-room tea-coffee kettle looked filthy.
- The good thing about this hotel is that it is within walking distance to a row of shops/restaurants/convenience stores etc. There is a Starbucks within walking distance, and very close to Starbucks are three restaurants serving Indian food: Sri Brinchang, Cameron AA Curry House and Singh Chapati Urban Restaurant (which is closed when we visited, and is likely to open in or post December, 2017).
- The hotel is around 290m or just 4 minutes walk away from Tanah Rata Bus Terminal, and yes you can drag your luggage that distance.
- No soap-case, tooth-brush or tooth-paste provided. No containers for keeping your tooth brush either.
- Ironing board nor iron were provided in the room. Did not use but saw an ironing room on our floor.
- Hair-Dryer was available in the room, along with a refrigerator and TV.
- Some rooms do not have attached bathroom, so just check before you book. Ours did, but they have a geyser system where we have to switch on the geyser/heater if we want hot water, so plan accordingly.
- Our booking included free breakfast which had a good spread. The staff was very courteous to prepare Fried Rice for my Mom on the last day because of the lack of vegetarian items that day.
- Checkin, checkout was fast.
- Very noisy, there was some street-side fiesta or something going on which played loud music till late at night which was very disturbing. To add on to the disturbance, they have a mosque somewhere nearby.
- There is a bath tub provided but it is written you can only take shower.
- Hotel does not have lift, but there is a porter to carry your luggage.
- There is a huge children park right in front of the hotel across the road.
- Mosquito Repellent was available in the room
- Their access card would not open the door every now and then and you had to go to reception everytime to get it reset, very annoying.
Sri Brinchang
- Sri Brinchang is 450m or 6 min walk from Century Pines Resort, very close to Starbucks.
- Cameron AA Curry House is 600m or 8 min walk from Century Pines Resort. If you keep going ahead of Starbucks you will find it on the same road, corner property
- Indian restaurant, serves vegetarian and non-vegetarian items.
- Service was quick and good.
- Do not accept cards for a total bill of less than 60 MYR.
- A Vegetable Diwani Handi cost us 12.90 MYR, Aloo Zeera for 10.90 MYR, and plain Naan for 3.50 MYR. Add a 6% tax to it.
- They do not make Tandoori Rotis.
- Singh Chapati Urban Restaurant is 650m or a 9 min walk from Century Pines Resort, in the Brij Court very close to Cameron AA Curry House.
- It was closed when we visited, and is likely to open in or post December, 2016.
Take the Eco Cameron Travel & Tours – Full Day Tour
Eco Cameron Travel & Tours - Full Day Experience Tour
- The full day experience tour is a combination of The Mount Brinchang, Mossy Forest, BOH Tea Plantation, Time Tunel Museum, Big Red Strawberry Farm, Sam Poh Buddhist Temple, Cameron Highlands Butterfly Garden & Fruit and Vegetable Market.
- Duration: 7 Hours
- Departure: 8.45am
- Rate: RM 90 Adults
- Minumum: 2 Persons
- Entrance fees to all the places are inclusive in this tour
- Even though the highlight of the tour were BOH Tea Plantation & Mossy Forest (rest were all fillers imho) which can be covered in half-day tour as well, but I'll suggest to take a full day tour because it rains everyday in Cameron Highlands and with the entire day at your disposal you have the flexibility to cover both of these when the rain stops. Both are open places, so it is not possible to do them during rains as you will get soaked.
- Website: http://www.ecocameron.com/full-day-experience-tour.html
- Email: info@ecocameron.com
- We were scheduled for a pickup from our hotel Century pines Resort at 8.45AM and our Guide came on time.
- Our Guide was very informed and shared a lot of information with us.
- Started at BOH tea plantation that offered amazing views among the clouds (which cleared for good photos)
- Very beautiful tea plantation where you can see the greenery spread as far as your eyes can see, and then there are mountains afar, very picturesque
- The tour does not really take you inside BOH Tea Plantation, instead its more a view from the side of the road.
- Next stop was Mount Brinchang - which is actually not a mountain, but a dead end road - that has telephone towers and a old rusted watch/observatory tower to take a view of the highlands. There is no view as such but just tress all over. Gets crowded also, as the watch tower has steep steps and can accommodate 5-6 people at a time
- Its a Board Walk, you don't really hike or step in mud.
- The extensive board walk is well made, and has frequent stops for rest and photographs. You will see and learn about ancient trees, plants animals and birds. Giant trees that grow at the rate of 1 cm per year! Pre historic!! Take it slowly and carefully and you will make it and love it as I did.
- The "Mossty Forest" starts with an staircase taking you up several dozen stairs. As you enter the forest you are on wooden planks for the entire attraction. You will not get dirty and as long as you hold onto the railings you will be plenty safe. This is great for young children and elderly.
- Not worth visiting at all. Just some randoms items collected over time and displayed randomly in a basement.
- Will only suggest doing this if it is raining, and you need shade.
Take a bus from Bus Terminal Tanah Rata to KL Sentral Bus Terminal.
Go to Suria KLCC Mall and finish Petrona Twin Towers, KLCC Park, Lake Symphony and Aquaria KLCC.
Hotel to Bus Terminal Tanah RataTake a walk to the bus terminal.
Tanah Rata to KL Sentral Bus TerminalTok the C.S Travel & Tours (Amudi Express) bus from Tanah Rata to KL Sentral Bus Terminal. Departs Tanah Rata at 8.30 AM.
Duration required for bus from Tanah Rata to KL Sentral Bus Terminal is about 3 hours depending on traffic condition.
Booked tickets online via Book online via http://www.busonlineticket.com. Costs 35 RM per head.
KL Sentral Bus Terminal to Aloft Kuala Lumpur SentralYou can walk to Aloft Hotel from where the bus leaves you.
Bus will stopped at the lower ground of KL Sentral. You will need to take the escalator to go up, and take another escalator up to Nu Sentral Mall, turn right and walk stright then you will reach the destination.
Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral
- This is one of the best hotels I've stayed in, hands down! I can't believe it's in the middle price range.
- While coming from Nu Sentral Mall you enter Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral from Level 1.
- Hotel Reception or lobby is on Ground Floor.
- For checkin you have to take the lift and go to Ground Floor.
- Location is excellent, the hotel is attached with a in-door walk-way at Level 1 to KL Sentral (LRT & Monorail Station) which is the central hub of Kuala Lumpur, so commute becomes very easy both by subway as well as catching a taxi. It is very handy to catch the train or monorail to anywhere with in KL. Signposted from the platform
- There is a pre-paid taxi counter at KL Sentral.
- Direct connection to Kuala Lumpur Airport via KLIA Express which you can catch from KL Sentral itself.
- The hotel itself was really modern
- The bathroom was large and well equipped with toiletries. Ample free bottled water is provided (4 bottles per day in a Double Room)
- Also attached to the NU Sentral Shopping Mall which provided us with all the shopping needs.
- The hotel pool is amazing. The view is brilliant. Infinity pool has superb view at the rooftop beside the bar which has a decent clientele/crowd.
- Check-in & check-out was very fast. Room is big enough for 4 and very clean. Shampoo & body wash has a big dispenser & is of good quality (brand caled Bliss). Coffee & tea is unlimited & free! Water was supplied 4 bottles/day. Iron & board is also provided!
- Lots of different sized towels, slippers and Nice fluffy bathrobes were provided.
- Hotel has free wifi with a good speed. Many plug options next to desk.
- They can keep your luggage if you have checked out early but have an evening flight to catch, free of cost.
- KL train system is one where if you need to change from one train station to another, you need to exit from the station, find the connecting station, which may be located 1km away. It is that inconvenient to change from one train line to another. However, most of the train lines stopped at Sentral so it is very convenient to stay in a hotel right next to Sentral.
- Had an excellent stay. Was impressed and service rendered was excellent. Overall experience is so much more than satisfied
- Stayed in Room No 508 - Loft Twin Room. We had asked for twin beds in a double room for two people, both the beds were massive and each could accomodate two people with a little difficulty. Very fluffy comforter and pillows. The bathroom was very modern with a brilliant shower.
- Only gripe will be the lack of sound proofing. Could hear loud musc being played till late at night.
- Hotel has free wifi with a good speed.
- Oddly enough the frosted glass sliding door can only close off either the toilet stall or the shower stall at one time. Also would be better to have hand held shower option.
- The room has no bathtub but it is spacious and very comfortable.
- Lots of Indian Restaurants nearby, a particularly interesting one is Gem Restaurant. Take the lift of Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral and go to LG3 which takes you to the parking lot and come to the main road. From here you should be able to see Gem Restaurant. This is the back side of the hotel, from here cross the road via the foot bridge and you land outside restaurant.
Gem Restaurant
- Take the lift of Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral and go to LG3 which takes you to the parking lot and exit to the main road. From here you should be able to see Gem Restaurant. This is the back side of the hotel, from here cross the road via the footbridge and you land right outside restaurant.
- Located across the road from Nu Sentral Mall but accesible via footbridge
- Few steps from the exit of Monorail.
- Excellent food and very good service.
- Mixed Vegetable Pulao for 10 RM, Roti and Plain Nan for 4 RM each, Tawa Vegetable for 12.90 RM, Veg Biryani for 11.05 RM with additional 6% GST
- It would be better to get TnG card as you will travel using KTM Komuter. TnG is more accepted including KLIA Express train. MyRapid is valid for LRT, Monorel, and Rapid Bus only and benefit to locals.
- The MyRapid card can only be used on the LRT and monorail lines. The Touch N'Go card can be used on the LRT, monorail, KTM Komuter, ERL train to the airport, RapidKL buses, and if you drive - paying toll and carparking charges at selected facilities as well.
- You can buy a Touch n Go from NU Sentral, Lot L2.07, Level 2. This is a store dedicated to Touch n Go.
- The card costs RM10.60 each and comes with a one-month warranty period.
- Customer can choose a reload value from RM10, RM20, RM35, RM50, RM100, RM200 and RM500.
- Customer needs to present the card at Touch 'n Go Sales Counters. Choose the reload value (min: RM10, max: RM500). Pay the amount and the Customer Service Attendant will do the reloading process. Once completed, customer will be provided with a printed reload receipt.
- Just “touch” the card on the card reader. You may use either side of the card. The system will emit a “beep” sound to indicate that the transaction is successful.
- Be careful, there is no refund of any money left on the card when you are leaving. We loaded it once for 20 RM (over and above the cost of te card itself), and it was sufficient except for the last day, and then we just bought another ad-hoc ticket for our travel.
- On KTM Komuter you cannot use the regular swipe machine while entering the station, there is a separate swipe machine for Touch n Go Card holders, a little confusing for the first time travellers.
From KL Sentral take the RapidKL LRT Kelana Jaya Line (5) going in the direction to Gombak and get down at KLCC Station.
When you arrive at the station, follow the signs guiding commuters towards Suria KLCC. The walk through an air-conditioned walkway takes less than 5 minutes.
Getting around in Kuala LumpurTaxi: The easiest (but often also the most expensive) way to travel within Kuala Lumpur is by taxi. Taxis are almost always available at every corner in the city center. The only downside is that some taxi drivers do not want to turn on the meter if he notices that he is dealing with tourists (though locals also often complain). Taxi drivers lingering outside luxury hotels or tourist hot spots such as KL Bird Park are especially guilty of this behaviour. Note that KL Sentral and some large malls such as Pavilion and Suria KLCC have a coupon system for taxis where you pay in advance at a slightly higher fee than the meter. One of the easiest ways to use taxis in KL is to download an app such as Uber, Easy Taxi or Grab (formally known as My Teksi) to your smartphone or tablet.
Trains, Monorail and Light Rail Transport LRT: The train system in KL is fairly modern and efficient, though one has to admit that many of the lines do not interconnect and there is limited integration between the lines. The Touch n Go Card allows you access to all lines. KL train system is one where if you need to change from one train station to another, you need to exit from the station, find the connecting station, which may be located 1km away. It is that inconvenient to change from one train line to another. However, most of the train lines stop at KL Sentral. Here is the link to the Integrated Transit Map showing connections and routes between all the lines (as of 30th June 2016).

- From The KLCC Park: For those who prefer a more scenic route, a brisk walk via the KLCC Park will lead to the West Entrance of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. From here, it is just a short distance to the entrance of Aquaria KLCC.
- To reach KLCC Park, you need to first get yourself to Suria KLCC Mall. Once you are inside the shopping mall, take an escalator up to the Ground (G) Level and walk towards the bubble lifts located at the center of the floor. The exit to KLCC Park is just opposite these lifts.
- Amazing park, with little hills and pathways. There is a very good running track in the park, nice and wide. There is a swimming pol for kids and water-fountains for drinking, children slides etc.
- Park bang opposite KLCC twin towers.. Fountains and well manicured gardens are added bonus ..
- The best place to visit when you want to take pictures of the twin towers. There's a 43m bridge at the other side of the fountain from the mall where you can easily take pictures of the whole twin towers. It's a nice place to just relax (sit at the benches or just stroll around) and enjoy the view.
- At night there is an awesome light/water show in front of the towers in the Lake Symphony in the park. The performances start at 8:00pm, 9:00pm and 10:00pm daily. Each of them will take around 10 minutes. During the performance, the colorful fountains will perform as many as 150 animations. And its free of cost.
- Lake Symphony: Lake Symphony is the main attraction of KLCC Park. The man-made lake with powerful water fountains is an attention grabber.
- There are also numerous rest areas and benches alongside the track.
- Opening Hours: 10.00am to 10.00pm. Opens daily including public holidays.
- Besides the various waterfalls, fountains, cascade and reflecting pools scattered around the park, there are a variety of facilities at KLCC Park including a two-acre children’s playground, a 1.3km-long jogging track, shelters and benches, patterned footpaths and sculptures. On KLCC Park’s western stretch is a public children’s swimming pool.

They give you 10 minutes at the Sky deck which is more than long enough to take pictures and have a look at the views. However they give you 20 minutes at the observation deck which was too long as we were done taking pictures and looking at the views after 10 minutes. If they would have activities/things to read/do then 20 minutes would be OK.

- There is a bird photography site where there is a helper to guide you how to attract the beautiful parrots with the food provided by him.
- There are kiosks throughout the park, so there won't be shortage for food and drink. However, it is advised to bring yourself a fan and cap as it can be quite hot as the park are not air-conditioned.
- The birdshow itself was quite fun. They would ask for the audience to participate in the show and at the end of the show, they allow everyone to feed the ducks.
- We saw several peacocks with their tails open for the first time, as well as a flock of pigeons sleeping together.
- There is a taxi counter outside the birdpark for your journey back. They take a aditional Taxi Service Fee of 2 RM before boarding the taxi, and then you pay to the taxi by meter. Pretty convenient, and less scope for cheating.
- There is a lot of walking. so make sure you're wearing comfortable clothes and shoes and have water (or buy water inside).
- It is in the same area as KL Bird Park. The scale of the Botanical garden is impressive, and I am not sure if it is posible to do it all.
- Opening Hours: Mondays to Sundays, 7am to 8pm
- Houses KL Bird Park (entry ticket is there), Orchid and Hibiscus Garden, Mouse Deer Park, Deer Park, and Butterfly Park.
- Nothing is sign posted and are quite dispersive, so you are basically on your own to find out where to go for what.
- you do get a little hot walking around, so take plenty of water. Did not see any drinking fountains there.
- It is open to all no need to pay any entrance fee for this attraction, most of the drivers don’t know this place hence you can say Birds Park and this place are next to each other. Don’t forgot to bring your camera along with full charge, because you can click many photos over here.
- A 2 min walk from the bird park which is a really good spot to visit.
- Walked from the hibiscus garden to the orchid garden since they were quite close. There was a wide range of colours from the different orchids which made the walk very interesting. Quite an enjoyable stroll specially through the sprinklers since it was quite hot that day. There were a few water features along the path as well as some shelter for rain or sun. The entrance from the road is also quite close to the KL Bird Park.
- The Orchid Park or also commonly known as Orchid Garden is located on top of small hill opposite to the KL Bird Park.
- There is no charge for entering the orchid park. I would recommend you take a bottle of water with you whilst walking around, some areas have little or no shade.
- Did not find the garden itself too impressive, or may be we went off-season

Complete Batu Caves & Dark Cave Malaysia. And then do Nu Sentral Mall.
Aloft Hotel to Batu Caves
From KL Sentral take the KTM Seremban Line (1) going in the direction of Batu Caves, and get down at the last station Batu Caves. takes about 1/2 hour from KL Sentral station. From the Batu Caves stop, the caves are only a quick five minute walk.
Batu Caves
- A limestone outcrop located just north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves has three main caves featuring temples and Hindu shrines.
- Its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, besides a steep 272 climb up its steps to finally view the stunning skyline of the city centre. And a further 100 when you get inside the limestone cave at the top.
- Monkeys frolic around the caves, and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave.
- Pay attention to your bag. Wear it on front if possible. Monkeys are very notorious here.
- It was pretty cool to see, and they are free entry to the public with the exception of the Dark Cave (35 RM) and Ramayan cave (5 RM)!
- Temple Cave or Cathedral Cave is the best known and biggest of the caves, and it is free. This is one where you reach after climbing all the steps, the ceiling is 100 m above the ground and this huge chamber is lighted by daylight from several holes in the ceiling. Dark Cave is on your way down. And Ramayan Cave is on ground level itself.
- It is said that at the base of the hill are two more cave temples, Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave, both of which nobody knows about and we could not find them.
- The Ramayana Cave is situated to the extreme left as one faces the sheer wall of the hill. On the way to the Ramayana Cave, there is a 15 meter tall statue of Hanuman and a temple dedicated to Hanuman, the noble monkey devotee and aide of Lord Rama. The walkway into the caves is impressively lined with horse statues leaping out of the river, but that is nothing compared to the inside, which is beautifully laid out in lit up statues to tell the story of Rama from Hindu mythology. Inside the cave there are further steps by the waterfall; though the waterfall was nice but there is nothing at the top after climbing a good number of difficult and high stairs.
- Opening Hours: Daily, 06:00 - 21:00
- Don't miss Dark Cave for 35 RM per adult, it is expensive but totaly worth it.
- The natural limestone caves are as old as time and a Hindu shrine was only established in the last hundred years or so. The enormous statue is very impressive and built around ten years ago.
- The toilets are hidden to the right of the main statue. Take a bag or something to hold your phones and wallets etc as there is no where to place them when using the toilets. And as everywhere in Malaysia they are horribly dirty
- Batu Caves is a natural creation of centuries of slowly dripping limestone to create pillars of calcium carbonate stalactite (pillars forming from the cave ceiling), stalagmite (pillars forming from the ground up wards) these eventually join to form magnificent one pillar. Discovered in 1892 this marvel of nature was slowly transformed into a sacred Hindi Temple.
- Locals take off their shoes but not mandatory for tourists only if you actually go inside the small praying areas inside the main cave.
- Website: http://www.darkcavemalaysia.com/
- The caves are much cooler than outside so offer some relief from the heat after climbing all the stairs! The tour is not that cheap but is value for money.
- The tour was really great. We learnt loads about the formation of the limestone caves and also about the various bat species that live in the system. Was incredible to see the stalagmites/ stalactites and an amazing moment when the sunlight streamed in through the 'skylight' in one of the caverns. Good value for money.
- The guide was great and explained the history and importance of the caves. They actually work for the natural reserve like a scientist. Explained the cave history, the animal and insects inside, the ecological system inside the cave. You get to experience the zero light "you can't see your hand".
- The tour was 850m back and forth. There are a few steps inside and some sections in the caverns could be wet and hence, slippery, so wear suitable footwear.
- The entrance is on your way to the 272 steps up the Batu Caves, can be done while coming down. Many people missed it, but it is on your left when you walk up Batu Cave, or on your right when you walk down. The entrance to the Dark Cave is located three quater of the way up the main Temple staircase and is situated on the left just before the Temple Cave.
- We saw spiders, big centipedes, bats and the tiny white millipedes... no snake today though! Torches and helmets provided. 35RM entry, and the money goes back into preserving the caves
- The guide also told us that there is an advanced tour, where you pay RM55 to have a more in-depth ~4-hour tour with a guide and go much deeper into the cave. We want to join, but to no avail as it needs 7 days booking in advance! But that invloves a good amount of physical activity like crawling
- Operation hours: Mondays - Fridays 10.00am to 5pm; Saturdays, Sundays & Public holidays 10.30am to 5.30pm
- There are no restrooms at the cave compound. Make sure to use the restroom at the ground level before coming to Dark Cave as restroom is NOT available at the site.
- Availability: Daily, year round
- Ticket rates (per pax): *Adult – RM 35, *Child – RM 25 *tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the cave, price shown is inclusive of 6% GST
- Duration of tour: 45 minutes
- Group size: 15 pax (maximum)
- Equipment: torchlight and helmet provided
- Large bags, backpacks, food and beverages, wheeled devices and strollers etc. are not permitted in the cave, but they are hapy to keep it for you in case you have them, which you can take back while leaving. You can take photos within the Dark Cave but no tripods are allowed in the cave.

- This shopping centre has numerous eateries and the Parkson Departmental Store. The top floor has all the eateries. There are all manner of outlets like Uniqlo and most of the top brands in this shopping mall.
- As a mall it is not huge but the tenant mix is pretty well-balanced. A huge food court at top floors.
- The location is good, as it connects via escalator to the city train hub, KL Sentral. Buses are easily available at NU Sentral's main entrance. The mall is directly connected to KL Sentral station, giving easy access to the LRT, KLIA Express/Transit, and the KTM Komuter train.
